Golfo Aranci – Livorno, 2020 August 26th.
In a summer where uncertainty reigns supreme, lucky enough to take a holiday with our small young family, we embark for the return from an island where tourists have spread the infection. We are in the middle of the sea, far from defined holds and references, between fearful attention and the melancholy of returning from holidays. Upon arrival, waiting for us, a city which seems empty, where perhaps a swab awaits us.
The tense thread between departure and arrival, the feeling of a suspension of normality that often accompanies travel, is covered by a veil of concern. The set of notes from a ferry crossing becomes a metaphor for an emotional state that many have experienced in this summer parenthesis of hoped for and imagined normality.
