The Italian word rèpere (o repère) indicates, in sculpture, small lead nails which were affixed on plaster casts as reference points in order to maintain distances and proportions during the transposition to the marble statue. The term is also employed in medicine to indicate the reference points used by doctors and surgeons. In the case of radiotherapy, they refer to small cutaneous tattoos made to patients for the accurate targeting of the radiations during each session throughout the therapy. Mask and shells, molds of heads, busts, bodies of the patients, have the similar function of fixing a position and some constant references during the whole therapy.
The project was commissioned in the frame of CURA, curated by Bruna Biamino for IED Torino in 2018, thanks to Radiotherapy department of Molinette Hospital, Città della Salute, Turin.
